From Atlanta with Love

Just before the end of the year, I received a sweet message from Becky in Atlanta, Georgia.  As an elementary school teacher with a heart for children around the world, she was thrilled to learn her wedding dress could help students in Malawi achieve their goals in education.

Becky and her husband, JJ,  were married June 11, 2016.  Here is Becky's dress story:

I was determined to find a dress I felt comfortable and beautiful in, but a steal of a deal. After looking at a common store, I found one for $999. I couldn't bring myself to spend that on the dress, so I looked at another store where my sister found hers a few years earlier for $500. I prayed that I could find one for less than that. I went in the store and found a rack of sale dresses from $99 - 299. After trying on almost 20 of these dresses, I found the one I loved, a $1,200 tag for $99. I was thrilled and felt it was an answer to prayer.  I never thought this dress could impact children in another nation...

Becky's dress will be on its way to Malawi soon.  Follow The Dress Project on Facebook and Instagram to find out the date of our next one-day sale, where you can shop 100s of dresses.

Generous Malawi

Recently, I received a message from Tahera in Blantyre, Malawi.  "I have a brand new wedding dress... I've been holding on to it for a while, but it's not doing anyone any good in my cupboard. I would love to donate it to your cause."

Our first bridal donation from within Malawi! And, it was not only a brand new dress, but one of the highest quality dresses donated to The Dress Project, to date.

I asked Tahera to share her dress story so you, too, might be inspired by her generosity:

With all the stress and confusion that comes with weddings; I ended up with two wedding dresses. I've been married since February 2015. Since then, I've had this beautiful brand new wedding gown sitting in my closet and never paid much attention to it. I figured I could sell it when the opportunity came.

Just the other day; I remembered coming across a Facebook page called The Dress Project and they sold donated dresses in Malawi. I thought, "there is no better way to make use of this dress: helping young girls in my own country to have a chance of a better education."

It couldn't give me more joy knowing that it would go to such a good cause. I hope this inspires more ladies in Malawi to donate & help young girls in their country. Charity begins at home.

Whether you live in Malawi or the U.S., consider cleaning your closet and donating your like-new bridesmaid, bridal and formal dresses to The Dress Project.  Click here to donate.

Giving Each Dress a Second Story

Amethyst Brown - Tampa, Fl

After much conversation and thought, my husband and I made the decision to have a small wedding ceremony composed of immediate family only. Additionally, New Year's Eve has always been one of my favorite holidays. Therefore, we chose New Year's Eve for our wedding date. Since both of my husband's grandmothers live right outside of Orlando, we thought it best to have our wedding close to that area and eventually decided to get married on a cruise boat departing out of a port in Tampa.

In regards to the dress, I wanted something casual yet still with a bit of elegance and after trying on several dresses I found one I was satisfied with. While I loved wearing my dress on my wedding day, I was thrilled to have the opportunity for someone else to enjoy it.  Baby News!  Congratulations to Amethyst and her husband who recently welcomed their first baby!

Eunice Kaimila - Lilongwe, Malawi

On December 20, 2014, Eunice Mtali wed Bongani Kaimila in Lilongwe, Malawi.  Eunice not only purchased her wedding dress, but also two bridesmaid dresses from The Dress Project.

Eunice commented, "It amazes me how these dresses fit right into what I wanted for the wedding. I thank God for the mutual benefit and opportunity of getting my dreams met plus raising funds for education. This is a priceless endeavor."

It was a long and happy wedding day for us, spanning 16 hours of celebration with friends and family. I wore my dress for our dinner with friends at the end of the day. My two bridesmaids had worn their brown dresses for the ceremony and reception earlier.

Our favorite intern, Sarah Felker, has turned The Dress Project office into a professional photo studio.  Sarah uses her photography skills and retail background to prep, photograph, inventory and package each dress before it is shipped to Malawi.  She has inventoried hundreds of dresses and is an integral part of beginning each dress' second story.
